Torch Run and official opening of the Olympic Town: 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games
The opening ceremony is over and it was truly breathtaking. We would like to thank all performers and musicians, but above all we would like to thank all athletes, coaches and of course the great audience for providing an amazing atmosphere. Thank you all!
After the Flame of Hope has been in Courtray, it continued through the cities of East-Flandres. The atmosphere was great!
The Special Olympics EU Games 2014 is the name of the new application of the Special Olympics. It's available on Android and Apple platforms.

The 2014 Special Olympics European Summer games will take place in the whole province of Antwerp, not just the city. This week we’d like to introduce you to Mol, a town in the beautiful region known as ‘De Kempen’.
For the first time in the history of Special Olympics, all participants will get to spend the days before the Games in a real Olympic Village. There they will get to train, have fun and make new friends.
To be an athlete means to be in top physical condition. That is why Special Olympics provides the Healthy Athletes Program during national and international Games, just like the 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games.
Timothy Shriver is the chairman and CEO of Special Olympics and as such, he represents over 200 million people with intellectual disablilities from over 170 countries. Tim describes himself as: “Special Olympics Fan in Chief, father of 5, husband of one, brother of many, teacher at heart” and that pretty much covers it all.
