'Life changing’ is how French basketball legend Huges Occansey describes his experiences in coaching the French Female Unified Basketball team at the Special Olympics European Summer Games 2014.

“Now I have another vision about the athletes. It has been a very good experience for me personally. I hope I will be a better person after these Games” he explained. Occansey, who played 83 times for the men's French national basketball team between 1985 and 1995 and was the 7th leading scorer in the history of the men's professional basketball league in France, coached a team of nine female basketball players made up of athletes with and without intellectual disabilities. They secured second place in Division 1A with hosts Belgium taking Gold. Occansey encourages more people to experience Special Olympics Games in order to remove the taboo around people with intellectual disabilities. “People are afraid because they may have never have met someone with ID. But when they come they know."
