A grand celebration of all participating athletes, coaches, families and supporters in Antwerp, Sportpaleis and a big thank you to all crew, organising committee, volunteers, sponsors, advertisers and artists.
All good things must come to and end, but the 2014 Special Olympics European Summer Games won’t go out without a last big bang. The venue, proclaimed the third most popular concert hall in the world (by Pollstar), has been an iconic place for both sports and entertainment events for the last 80 years.
In this ‘Sportpaleis’, the Closing Ceremony will pay tribute to all people involved in the European Summer Games: athletes, coaches, volunteers, families and fans.
The – over 60 musicians strong - CD’s Orchestra will accompany artists such as Axel Hirsoux (Eurovision Song Contest - 2014), Kate Ryan (Eurovision Song Contest - 2006), Natalia (2nd in tv-show Idol in 2003 and concerts with The Pointer Sisters and Anastacia), Sandra Kim (first and still only Belgian winner of Eurovision Song Contest) and Stijn Meuris will throw a huge party for all of these people. Standing and dancing all together in the middle of this sports palace, this will not only be their celebration but also the pinnacle of mutual respect, inclusion and solidarity. It will be the ultimate message of Special Olympics before extinguishing the Flame of Hope and the lowering of the flag.
The Closing Ceremony will also pick up the story of the Opening. The special child has now become an athlete, an adult, in love and ready to start a new chapter in her life with the person of her choice.
